Ingredients 

Crumb Topping

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter cold and cubed

Filling

  • 1 cup molasses
  • ¾ cup hot water
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 pie crust unbaked

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix molasses, hot water, and baking soda. Add the beaten egg and mix well.
  4. Pour the molasses mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the filling.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. Cool before serving.
