Shoo Fly Pie
A classic Pennsylvania Dutch dessert with a rich molasses flavor.

Filling
- 1 cup molasses
- ¾ cup hot water
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg beaten
Crumb Topping
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup butter cold, cut into small pieces
- 1 unbaked pie crust
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine molasses, hot water, and baking soda. Stir well.
Add the beaten egg to the molasses mixture and mix thoroughly.
In another bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour the molasses mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
Allow the pie to cool before serving.
