Red Velvet Layer Bars
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, mix melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix well.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Pour batter into prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until creamy.
Spread frosting over cooled bars. Cut into squares and serve.
