Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small pieces
  • to taste Maple syrup for serving

Instructions 

  1. 1. Grease a baking dish and place half of the bread cubes in the dish. Sprinkle with blueberries and top with remaining bread cubes.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Pour over bread mixture, pressing down to soak all pieces. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  3. 3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove dish from refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Dot with butter pieces.
  4. 4. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown and set. Serve with maple syrup.
