Scones
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- ½ cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and poppy seeds.
Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.
Cut the dough into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
