Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups milk
  • 3 egg yolks beaten
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pie crust baked

Instructions 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, and salt.
  2. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and boils.
  4. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  5. Stir a small amount of hot mixture into beaten egg yolks, then return to hot mixture in saucepan. Boil and stir for 1 minute.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  7. Pour into baked pie crust. Cool completely before serving.
