Ingredients

Bread Dough

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water 110°F
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, oil, salt, and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Punch dough down. Divide into 6 portions; shape each into a ball. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  4. Bake at 400°F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Cut a thin slice off the top of each bread bowl; hollow out bottom, leaving a ¼-in. shell. Fill with soup or stew.
