  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly. Shape into a round loaf.
  5. Place the loaf on a baking sheet and cut a deep cross on top.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
