Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups warm milk
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup currants or raisins

For the Cross

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup water

For the Glaze

  • ¼ cup apricot jam

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2. Add melted butter, egg, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. 3. Gradually add flour and currants/raisins. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. 5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into buns. Place on a baking sheet.
  6. 6. For the cross, mix flour and water to form a paste. Pipe a cross on each bun.
  7. 7. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. 8. For the glaze, heat apricot jam until melted and brush over warm buns.
