Instructions
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add sugar if desired.
Simmer on low heat for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve hot over pasta or use as a base for other dishes.
