Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually blend in the flour and salt until well combined.
  5. Roll dough into small balls and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.
  6. Flatten each ball with a fork, making a crisscross pattern.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  8. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
