Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (like rosemary, thyme, or parsley)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Add the chopped herbs.
  4. Stir until a soft dough forms. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly.
  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Cut a deep "X" on top of the loaf.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
