Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and molasses.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness.
Cut into star shapes using a cookie cutter.
Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are firm.
Let cool on a wire rack.
