Main Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
- 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 large egg beaten
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and mix well.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with hot water. Mix until smooth.
Stir in the beaten egg until fully incorporated.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
