Ingredients 

Cake Ingredients

  • 1 cup stout beer
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cubed
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup sour cream

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. In a saucepan, heat stout and butter until butter is melted. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa powder until smooth. Let cool.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, beat eggs and sour cream until combined. Add stout mixture and beat until smooth.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture and beat until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
