  • ½ cup sugar
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¾ cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and thickens. Boil for 1 minute.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Pour into individual serving dishes.
  4. Let cool slightly, then refrigerate until set. Serve chilled.
