Ingredients 

Cake

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cups fresh cherries pitted

Topping

  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup butter cold, cubed

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Fold in the cherries.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. In a small bowl, combine the topping ingredients: sliced almonds, sugar, and cold butter. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the batter.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool before serving.
