Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Combine yeast mixture with dry ingredients to form dough.
  5. Knead dough for 5 minutes, then let rise for 10 minutes.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle, sprinkle cheese, and fold.
  7. Cut into strips and twist.
  8. Boil water with baking soda, dip twists for 30 seconds.
  9. Place on baking sheet, brush with egg wash, sprinkle coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
