  • 1 cup Butter softened
  • 2 cup Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • 3 cup Flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Cocoa powder

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Gradually add flour and milk, alternating between the two, beginning and ending with flour.
  5. Divide the batter into two equal parts. Add vanilla extract to one part and cocoa powder to the other.
  6. Pour the vanilla batter into one baking pan and the chocolate batter into another. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool completely. Cut each cake into equal strips and arrange them in a checkerboard pattern.
