Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water

Instructions 

  1. In a large pot, combine water, sugars, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble.
  2. Add lemon juice and sliced apples to the pot. Stir to coat the apples with the syrup.
  3. Simmer for about 10 minutes, until the apples are just tender.
  4. Ladle the hot apple pie filling into sterilized canning jars, leaving ½ inch headspace. Wipe the rims clean, place the lids on, and process in a boiling water bath for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove jars from the water bath and let cool. Store in a cool, dark place.
