  2. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
  4. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  5. Stir in butter and vanilla until fully melted and combined.
  6. Pour into serving dishes and let cool.
  7. Refrigerate until set, about 2 hours.
