Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoon unsalted butter cold, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk cold

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
  6. Fold the dough over onto itself a few times to create layers, then pat it out again to about 1 inch thick.
  7. Use a round cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with butter or jam.
