Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  3. 3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. 4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. 5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on the baking sheet.
  6. 6. Sauté the chopped onion in olive oil until golden brown. Add poppy seeds and mix well.
  7. 7. Make a deep indentation in the center of each dough ball and fill with the onion-poppy seed mixture.
  8. 8. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
