Ingredients 

Crust

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

Filling

  • 5 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar for the crust. Stir in melted butter until well combined. Press mixture into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Bake crust for 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from oven and set aside.
  4. In another bowl, combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for the filling. Spread evenly over the baked crust.
  5. For the topping, mix flour and brown sugar in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the apple filling.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden and the apples are tender. Let cool before cutting into bars.
